Thomas Aquinas was the foremost mind of medieval scholasticism and he is recognized as the leading authority within the Roman Catholic Church.

Thomas was born in Italy and studied in Paris under Albertus Magnus at a time when the influx of Arabian-Aristotelian thought generated a strong reaction among believers. He developed his own conclusions from Aristotle and maintained that reason is able to operate within faith yet according to its own laws.
