BUS TRIP TO THE PHILADELPHIA REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

Hi All - Helene Megargel and I are working on organizing a bus trip to the Philadelphia Regional Tournament during the World Bridge Series Championship in October of this year. It is being held at the Marriott in Philadelphia.
Tournament runs from October 1 through October 15th.
Everything I have listed below is just an estimate but I would like to have feedback from you with just an estimate of how many of your players might be interested.
The bus would leave from Honesdale and will pick up in Scranton and Stroudsburg. I have based my prices on 40 reservations - however the bus holds more and if we have more the cost would be less - if we have less than 40, the cost would be more.
The WBF is offering $2.40 per player per day.
Tentative dates to leave are October 5th and return on October 9th.
There is a special game scheduled at the tournament called Golden Opportunity Pairs which is being held on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It gives overall gold points and is limited to 0-750 points with B being 0-300 points. This is a good opportunity for 0-750 players to get gold points in a pairs game. The bus trip would cover two of these games.
In addition there are all the regular team and side games and Bracketed Knockouts start every day and they are expecting 6 brackets which is good for players with under 2000 points because they will have 4 brackets to themselves and these events pay partial gold.
If we have 40 people - and every one shares a room, I estimate the cost to be approximately $375.00 per person.
Now this is just my first estimate. Helene has not gotten prices from the Hotel yet to see if they will give us a block price which would lower the price.
I wanted to get this out to all of you as we are just in the formative stages and we can change anything at this time.My price is figured on staying at the Marriott. I know Helene is looking at other hotels. We can change the date if for some reason these dates clash with anything. I'd like to hear all your positives and negatives now so I can perhaps have a better package drawn up and ready for the board meeting in March.
Also, if we can decide on the dates early we can get everyone to get it on their calendars so they don't make other plans.
You need to impress on them it is an opportunity to play in a World Bridge Championship and its just down the road.
Please email me with and suggestions, complaints, criticisms or just chatter on this tentative trip.

2009 Holiday Party Results

November 23, 2009
The Bridge clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania lost a very good friend, and the game of Bridge lost an outstanding ambassador on the 3rd of November when Nancy Kay Holmes passed away only a few months after burying her husband.
Nancy Kay always came to every game with a plate of her famous freshly-baked cookies. Often she came without a partner and was most happy to play with anyone who also showed up without one. She just wanted to play the game that she loved.
She always brought joy and a quiet dignity into any room she entered.

Unit 120 will host one of the locations for the District 4 North American pairs, Flight “C”, (non life masters) competition on Saturday, October 17th. This two-session event that will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall of St. Stephen’s Church, 35 S. Franklin Street in Wilkes-Barre. Co-directed by George Marcy and Walter Mitchell, the NAP Flight “C” features pre-duplicated boards and hand records. Because a minimum of five tables is required, all interested partnerships must reserve a spot through their local directors or by e-mailing Walter Mitchell at wsmitchell@finsvcs.com no later than October 1st. All participants must have qualified in an NAP qualifying game, and possess less than 500 masterpoints as of June 1, 2009. The combined entry fee for both sessions is $10 per player, with the Unit subsidizing any other costs, if necessary. The first three place finishers in the district receive a subsidy if they attend the North American Pairs championship at the NABC in Reno, NV March 9-10, 2010.
